Children First Appoints A New Executive Director

After more than four years leading Children First of the Rockies our Executive Director Robin Menschenfreund  has elected to move into a part-time position with the agency. Effective July 1, she will assume the newly created position of Associate Executive Director and will be responsible for grants and financial management.

We are pleased to announce that Sherie Munoz will be Executive Director effective July 1, 2015. Sherie brings over twenty years of experience in the Colorado non-profit community as both a volunteer and a professional and thrives on championing causes for children, youth and families.

I look forward to building on the success of CFOR’s existing programs, exploring new opportunities to strengthen families and, by extension, creating extraordinary impact for our community ~ Sherie Munoz

Successful 11th Annual Odd Fellows Cup

Supervised Parenting time | Supervised Parenting Exchanges | Children First of the Rockies

The 11th Annual Odd Fellows Cup was held on Saturday June 6 and with this spring’s frequent rain holding off until after the event, it was a fun and successful event at Longmont’s Ute Creek golf course.

About 15 teams competed including one led by our Board Vice President, Cort Norman who said, “Very well organized event at a very nice golf course. Was a beautiful day for a round of golf!”

There was only one women’s team entered which not surprisingly swept the prizes for the ladies!

The tournament was followed by a fabulous BBQ lunch and silent auction at the Odd Fellows lodge in Longmont.

The tournament was arranged by the Longmont Odd Fellows – IOOF Lodge #29 and Children First is very appreciative of the on-going support from the Brothers.

Hole Sponsors included 20/20 Tax Resolution, All American Auto Repair Longmont, Augustine Trees, Cavallo Chiropractic, Chamberlain coins and Collectibles LLC, Custom Microwave, Dizzy Family Fun Center, Ranucci Dental, Elevations Credit Union, Attorney Jay Fernandez, Lyons Chiropractic Clinic LLC, McDonald’s at 245 S. Open House

Supervised Exchanges | Children First of the RockiesOn April 13, 2015, Children First of the Rockies’ Board of Directors, Executive Director, and staff hosted an open house for our community partners and supporters. Among those joining us at the Center for the event were 20thJudicial District Court judges and court personnel, nonprofit partners, funders and donors, volunteers, civic organization members, attorneys, and a host of Children First friends.

Board President Mandy Walker and Executive Director Robin Menschenfreund updated attendees on our latest developments, most notably our search for a new facility. Guests had the opportunity to visit with staff to learn more about Parent Education and SAFE Services and take a “virtual tour” to better understand how clients experience supervised exchanges and supervised parenting time.

Remember Children First On Colorado Gives Day!

Colorado Gives Day | Children First of the Rockies

This Tuesday, December 9, is Colorado Gives Day, Colorado’s largest one-day online giving event presented by Community First Foundation and FirstBank. This is the day when all donations to non-profits through the Colorado Gives website receive an extra boost from the $1 Million Incentive Fund.

Children First of the Rockies is participating in this for the first time and we’re asking for your support. If you haven’t already done so, please visit our donation page at Colorado Gives. Two important things for you to know. One, you can go now and schedule your donation for December 9 so there’s no need to worry about forgetting to do it. Two, any amount you are able to donate makes a difference to us, because supporting us on Colorado Gives Day means we’ll get a share of that $1 Million Incentive Fund.

However you choose to support us on Colorado Gives Day you’ll be helping us continue to live our mission of fostering  parent-child relationships in a safe and supportive environment.

Thank you for your valuable support.

Support Us On Colorado Gives Day!

Colorado Gives Day | Children First of the Rockies

We have some exciting news. For the first time, Children’s First is participating in Colorado Gives Day. This is Colorado’s largest one-day online giving event, presented by Community First Foundation and FirstBank.

On Tuesday, December 9 2014, thousands of donors will come together to support Colorado nonprofits like ours. Last year, a record-breaking $20.9 million was distributed to Colorado nonprofits. Since this is our first year participating we’ve set our fundraising goal at $2,000 and I’m asking for your support in meeting this.

There are a couple of ways you can help.

First, you can make a donation and believe us, any amount will help. This is always true but even more so with Colorado Gives Day this year because there is a $1 Million Incentive Fund. When you make a donation of any size, we’ll receive a portion of this fund which increases the value of every dollar donated.

Check out our donation page on There’s no need to wait until December 9 to take action. You can go there right now and schedule your donation for December 9. It’s only donations received on December 9 before midnight Mountain Time that will get the boost from the $1 Million Incentive Fund.

Second, tell your friends and family members, even those who are out-of-state and out-of-country, about Colorado Gives Day by sharing the link to Children’s First on Colorado Gives with them. An easy way to do that is simply share this post with them or tell them to go to and enter Children First in the search bar.

Please be assured that however you choose to support us on Colorado Gives Day you’ll be helping us continue to foster parent-child relationships in a safe and supportive environment.

Warm regards,

Farm-To-Table Dinner A Success!

With over 70 people attending our second Farm-To-Table Dinner, the event was a wonderful success! It was fun to meet so many of our supporters.

Farm-To-Table Dinner | Children First

Children First’s Farm-To-Table dinner at Ollin Farms

The evening was just perfect. Ollin Farms is a beautiful setting and we lucked out with perfect weather. Put that together with good music, good company and good food and we couldn’t have asked for more.

Speaking of good food, Chef Justin’s squash was the hit of the evening and he has generously agreed to share his recipe with us.

Roasted Winter Squash

2 lbs winter squash – your favorite variety or use several different types
1 Poblano pepper
Medium yellow onion, finely diced
Cream, to taste
Ground ginger, to taste
Ground cinnamon, to taste
Pinch of sugar, if desired.

1. Roast the squash and pepper in the oven. Cut the squash in half and remove any seeds. Place cut-side down on a greased baking sheet. Cook in the oven for about an hour at 375.

2. When the pepper and squash are cooked, leave to cool until cool enough to handle. Remove the squash meat from the skin. Peel any blackened skin from the pepper and then finely dice the pepper.

3. Saute the onion in a little butter until softened.

4. Mix the squash, pepper and onion together and mash as you would potatoes.

5. Add the cream and spices to taste

6. Put mixture in an oven-proof dish and the cook uncovered for 25 minutes at 350.

Optional: Try adding some cooked sausage such as Chorizo or Italian to the squash for a meatier version of this.

Chef Justin assures us that this is super easy to make and you can’t go wrong so please try it at home.

Enjoy, and thank you again for your support!
